Abstract. The aim of the studies was an evaluation of plant vigour, yield, fruit quality and susceptibility to leaf diseases of late ripening strawberry cultivars. Among compared cultivars ‘Vikat’ is the most productive cultivar, with very large and firm fruits. ‘Vicoda’ is also very productive, but produces smaller and softer berries in comparison to ‘Vikat’. ‘Florence’ is valuable because of large and very firm fruits.

Key words: Fragaria × ananassa, late cultivars, yield, fruit quality, leaf diseases

Summary

The aim of the studies was an evaluation of plant vigour, productivity and plant susceptibility to leaf diseases of late ripening strawberry cultivars: ‘Pandora’, ‘Vicoda’, ‘Tarda’, ‘Vikat’, ‘Sophie’, ‘Florence’, ‘Segal’ and K-9524-05 (‘Pandora’ × ‘Onebor’). The experiment was established in September 2003 in Pomological Orchard of the Research Institute of Pomology and Floriculture, Skierniewice. The 80 potted plants (4 replicates with 20 plants per plot) of each cultivar were used in the experiment. Marketable yield, fruit weight, fruit susceptibility to gray mould, firmness and extract content as well as plant susceptibility to leaf spot, leaf scorch and powdery mildew were evaluated in the years 2004-2005.

The results showed that ‘Vikat’ was the most productive and also produced very large and firm fruits. ‘Vicoda’ was also very productive, but in comparison to ‘Vikat’, produced smaller and softer berries. ‘Florence’ was also a valuable cultivar because of large and very firm fruits.
